The Anticipation of Fashion Month
It's about that time that all the biggest fashion retailers and brands are flooding your feeds with Spring/Summer 2017 sneak peeks. If you're still hazy on the fashion month schedule, here's a calendar to help you keep track of all the shows and debuts. Familiarize yourself with the schedule, so you don't miss out on the most creative and symbolic designs to grace the runways! While we're frantically waiting for the premiere of spring collections, let's review a few things:
1. The Fashion Schedule Drama
As if it's not already hard to keep up with all the fashion weeks, it just got a little bit harder. Around this time last year, there was a lot of drama surrounding the fashion timeline. In an effort to stop fast fashion retailers from ripping off luxury collections, there was talk of speeding up the fashion calendar. Designers toyed with the idea of showing their collections during its corresponding season, appealing to a more instantaneous fashion cycle. Several brands announced that they would be presenting their collections sooner and in combination with their menswear lines, which became known as the See Now, Buy Now movement.
Be prepared to not only see new fall collections this September, but also buy them the same night as their debut! Yep, that's right! This might just be the perfect trade-off for having to adapt to a whole new schedule. It may all be trial and error, but it would definitely change the course of fast-fashion forever (if all designers got on board). Can you imagine what would happen, if fast-fashion retailers had to come up with their own designs?
2. Autumn/Winter 2016 Collections
Speaking of an out-of-balance fashion calendar, know what to test out this winter by refreshing your memory of the Fall/Winter 2016 collections shown back in February. Collections are shown in the following order: Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Celine, Christian Soriano, and Alexander Wang.
As you can see, this fall will be like no other! Ginger browns and scarlet reds emerge as prominent colors; empire waistlines will bring feminine qualities to masculine pieces; knits will become brighter, chunkier fashion statements; ruffles and bell sleeves are going to continue to dominate the scene; and even fashion successfully hones in on society's obsession with metallics, social media, and questions surrounding gender labels.
3. Trends to Look Out For
Summer releases and sales are big indicators of which trends will die out or live to see another day. Analyzing street style is one sure way to see which trends the general population has gravitated towards. For example, we saw a switch up in summer's staple stripe trend. Style bloggers and boutiques featured vertical stripes in their street style looks. This new interpretation of the stripe is one that we've all been dying to see and want more variations of -- sorry nautical stripes! Printed on jumpsuits and a number of bottoms, vertical stripes work wonders for the body, elongating them and giving the illusion of a taller, thinner self.
Some other exciting trends to watch out for in the upcoming shows include the reemergence of track suits and the transformation of midi skirts, ruffles, pleats, and the use of knits.
