The Power of Organic Makeup: The Pros and Cons of 100% PURE’s Fruit-Derived Cosmetics

I don't know about you, but I've been on a mad hunt for natural, cruelty-free makeup. Mass marketed and produced makeup contains tar, parabens, harsh fragrances, and other cancer-causing ingredients. For anyone who has sensitive skin, shopping for cosmetics can be a frustrating process. 100% PURE is a cosmetics and skincare company that has been listed as one of the top organic and ethical cosmetic lines, with an ingredient list you can actually read! I got the chance to put their products to the test, and I've finally reached a verdict.

Initially, I started researching 100% PURE in November. However, I wasn't able to physically get my hands on these products until late January. That's only because these coveted beauty picks were sold-out for months, especially their Fruit Pigmented Pretty Naked II eyeshadow palette and their Long Last Brows brow gel.

Prior to discovering these products, any and every beauty product would irritate my skin, causing rashes and itchiness, especially anything shimmery that contains Mica. However, 100% PURE isn't lying when they say that their products are hypoallergenic-a term I have grown to take with a grain of salt these days, as it’s more of a buzzword than a legitimate product feature.

Fruit-Pigmented Pretty
Naked Palette II — $45

Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I finally got these products in the mail. Shipping didn't take long at all (about a week altogether), and my items were nicely wrapped and delivered in packaging to die for! 100% PURE’s products come packaged in durable, recycled cardboard containers that speak to their natural and airy aesthetic. As soon I got the Fruit Pigmented Pretty Naked II Palette, I swatched it on my arm to understand the textures and see if the shades would be pigmented enough for my skin tone.

I had my doubts about whether I’d be able to wear this palette, but I was thoroughly surprised fruit could be so… pigmented? Granted, I did swatch the shadows a few times on my arm to show how they would blend out when layered up. This has now become my go-to palette-goodbye, itchy eyelids!

Maracuja Mascara:
Black Tea — $25

The true test, the Maracuja Mascara, was as equally surprising. Usually, mascaras have the tendency to burn my eyes during application and removal. Well, there's been NONE of that with this little one! I really wanted to try out this mascara because the product is described as giving length, volume, and separation. I will say that the volume is there, but I have to apply more than one time to get my desired length. I've always used Miss Manga by L'Oreal since I began purchasing my own makeup, so it is quite the adjustment not to see length at first stroke. Contrary to the Miss Manga mascara, I don't experience any flaking with the Maracuja Mascara. Flaking can definitely make or break a spring "no makeup" makeup look. Although this one may take a bit more work, it's worth it to keep your lashes looking thick and healthy and avoid a flakey, under-eye mess altogether!

Long Last Brows:
Medium Brown — $25

The next product that I stalked was the Long Last Brows in medium brown. On second thought, I think I would've preferred this one shade lighter. Soft Brown could be better for those who prefer natural-looking brows with and without a full face of makeup. Medium Brown, however, is perfect for those with medium to deep complexions who like a stronger, fuller-looking brow. It's an all-in-one brow product that shapes, fills, sets, and conditions brows for stronger and healthier-looking brows over time.

I have yet to experience smudging or fading when I've used this on my brows. As a religious user of the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Pencil, I'm so happy not to deal with my monthly "brow breakouts" anymore. Yes, that's a thing!

Mattifying Primer with
Vitamins & Antioxidants — $45

Now moving more towards face products, I decided to try the Mattifying Primer. I have normal-to-combo sensitive skin. Depending on the weather, I could lean more towards dry or oily. With hotter months fast approaching, I wanted to make sure to prepare myself-enter in this bad boy.

As someone who was a devout user of the Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer, I'm glad I found a safer and far more ethical version. This primer is silicone-free and does a fantastic job of filling in pores and providing a smooth canvas before makeup application. It feels moussey and very soft to the touch, so I have no qualms about putting this on my face. It's very easy to blend out and doesn't cause my skin to tighten up after slathering it on. Even after a couple of hours of makeup application, I don't look oily or feel like my skin can't breathe. In addition to this primer, 100% PURE offers a luminous primer for drier and mature skin types. It's a spring must-have, and try for sure!

Fruit-Pigmented Pink Champagne Luminescent Face Powder — $35

My favorite purchase out of the bunch, the Fruit Pigmented Pink Champagne Luminizer highlighter, was what I had been waiting for! Highlighting has been a top beauty trend since people discovered it was Hollywood's best-kept secret for radiant cheekbones. I hated that I couldn't take part in the craze due to my sensitive skin. Whenever I would try, I would wake up the next morning with rashes on my cheeks and stubborn texture.

Now I can highlight my face, and I want to shout it out to the world. Seriously, you don't know how desperately I wanted to highlight my face these past couple of years. I was skeptical about this product at first because of how light it looked in the pan. I knew it was love at first sight, though, as soon as I swatched it on my arm. This luminizer is a "glow from within" type of highlighter. It gives such a subtle and natural radiance to the face, and I couldn't ask for a better first-time highlight. I honestly love it so much that I've completely skipped tinted moisturizer before and gone out wearing it on my bare face. I'm not kidding. Get your hands on this puppy before it goes out of stock!

Overall Thoughts

From the Pretty Naked II Palette, I used: Splendor in my crease and as my transition color, Vivid in my outer corner, and Beam as an all-over lid color. I also mixed Afterglow and Illume from the palette with the Pink Champagne Luminizer for a soft, highlighted effect, and I finished the look with the Maracuja Mascara for thicker, darker lashes.

My skin didn’t look heavily made-up thanks to the Mattifying Primer, and I'm proudly and regularly wearing highlight for the first time in my life (without fear of a vengeful reaction). I loved the natural and effortless look I got when using these products, and I use every single one to get my ideal daytime "glam" look. Trust me when I say that I truly love, use, and abuse 100% PURE! My infatuation with the #NoDirtyBeauty movement is entirely too real. I was thoroughly surprised and had to share my experience with all of you!
