Sustainable Alternatives for FW22 Trends

2022 has welcomed another fall season with record-breaking weather to solidify the severity of climate change. For those looking to be responsible with their transitional and cold-weather wardrobe, let’s discuss sustainable alternatives for fall’s most notable trends, as noted by Vogue’s forecast

The Art of Texture

Fall/Winter collections are reflecting the 18-month Taurus North Node transit. This means texture play and mixing price points will serve your transitional wardrobe well with Taurus ruling the earth, senses, throat, shoulders, sensuality, worth and material wealth.

Texture play could be as simple as finding the balance between the Divine Masculine and Feminine as their energies relate to fashion. Integrating pieces like Nicole Benefield’s Ying Yang Muse Block Jacket into your trans-seasonal wardrobe is one way to express this theme of putting on a sensory experience with lavish, movement-inspired, and yet reasonably-priced pieces.

Another way to highlight texture this season is with layering. Now, layering is nothing new when it comes to sweater weather. However, it’s how you layer that takes a casual look up a notch. For example, blanketing a longlinee coat atop a Filipa K asymmetrical top or dress is one surefire way to make a statement at seasonal outings this year. Even experimenting with this season’s most-celebrated callback, the corset can add a feminine flare to harsh lines, masculine textures, and enchanting hues. Reformation’s Cove, Sorrento, and Veda Montrose tops can appease the senses all on their own; layered atop a long sleeve turtleneck, mock neck dress, or washed pant can elevate your autumn essentials quicker than you can make a pumpkin cold brew. Just remember as you sip that you’ll want to engage the five senses this season with your third pieces, accents, and main attractions.

The Classics, Upgraded

The sustainable fashion movement made ‘back to basics’ trendy, but it’s about time the basics got an upgrade. With the North Node in Taurus until July of 2023, it’s not surprising that simple yet luxuriously understated designs are packing a punch.

Coats, jackets, sweaters, and cardigans are to be expected when days shift from a cute summer breeze to those filled with cozy, chilly, and overcast. Take the cue to swap out your standard leather jacket for corduroy jackets like ABLE’s Joan Shacket and matte leather blazers. Deji Studios and Faithful the Brand are labels taking ‘updated classics’ to a-whole-nother level with quilted and bold, retro-inspired prints and stripes.

And instead of reaching for bland, static comfort pieces, you could make the switch to autumn easy with subtle tweaks to classic styles, such as opting for color-blocked knits like Ninety Percent’s India True Knit Bold Stripe Sweater. Even nighties got an upgrade thanks to the modern-day pajama factory Sleeper. Their multifunctional take on sleepwear makes ethically-crafted sleep sets and dreamy dresses the go-to for playdates, family activities, wine and cheese festivals, drinks with a friend, or a night in with take-out. Thankfully, putting sloped-sleeved undergarments and lingerie on full display won’t be frowned upon this season.

The Silhouette of Upper Strength

Keeping in line with bodices and silhouettes inspired by the Taurus north node, Ninety Percent’s Amelia True Knit Open Button Top, Wallflower Tencel™ Slash Dress, and their Jonguil Organic Cotton Poplin Woven Diagonal Strap Dress all satisfy this fall’s love of strong and flirty shoulders. Ninety Percent is a responsible ready-to-wear brand that donates 90% of its profits to charity. Their Lupin Troficolor Fine Twill Round Sleeve Dress takes a laidback approach to bringing all the drama and getting your money’s worth. Its multipurpose design makes the price tag a tad bit more worth it. Along with the Crane Dress by Two Days Off, poplin balloon sleeves may put silky slip dresses to shame. If you get stuck or confused about what to wear, puffed and angled statement sleeves won’t fail you.
