The Eco-Friendly Designers You Should Be Following

With the reveal of Fall/Winter 2017 Ready-to-Wear collections set to start in a week, I think it's important to research the designers showcasing their collections-big and small. Sustainable and ethically sourced fashion, or SLOW Fashion, is gaining popularity amongst consumers. We're becoming far more interested in who's making our clothes and how their production impacts the world. This year, I wanted to focus more on sustainable, fair-trade, and cruelty-free fashion alternatives and share my findings with others! So, without delay, here are three eco-friendly designers you should check out this season:

1. Suno

Duo, Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis, team up with Kenyan artisans to make beautifully optimistic designs. SUNO creations have been seen on the likes of Kerri Washington, Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jamie Chung, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Their latest Spring/Summer 2017 RTW collection featured bright jacquards, playful prints, and modern accents that were effortless wardrobe additions for the all-to-aware, influential city gal.

2. Edun

Edun is another eco-friendly designer that showcases African craftsmanship by using recycled materials and fabrics. Founded by Ali Hewson and Bono, the brand doesn't fuss with press much-a strategic move to get you to focus on the work rather than the names involved. Edun's most recent collection brought the 70s-inspired themes that we all love to the forefront-wide-leg and flare-cropped bottoms, bright and inviting accents, and delicate embroidery. The Spring/Summer 2017 collection was a blast from the past that married urban lifestyles and rich culture beautifully. It definitely leaves us color addicts dying to see more in their fall display.

3. Rodarte

Rodarte, not exactly a cruelty-free brand, is also making strides in the sustainability department. You'll see their dedication to environmentally conscious designs free of toxins, chemicals, synthetic (manmade) fabrics, and wasteful production. We all know about the risk of extinction bees are currently facing, and this collection definitely struck a nerve. Creative directors, Laura and Kate Mulleavy made a strong statement about bees and pollination in their Spring/Summer 2017 Ready-To-Wear showing that was all about rock 'n' roll chic and honeycomb life! It showed the beauty and lush of layered tulles and ruffles, eco-dyed furs, and floral appliqués that all simulated life blooming from bee pollination. It makes you wonder what other hot-button topics these sisters will tackle next!
